University of Southern California Names Beong-Soo Kim New President
The USC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Kim as the Los Angeles research university's 13th president after what administrators characterized as an exceptionally competitive vetting process.
"As a next generation president, we believe that he can dramatically accelerate USC's institutional advancement as a distinctive leader in higher education during a time of unprecedented change," USC Board of Trustees chair Suzanne Nora Johnson said in a statement.
Kim has served as interim president since July and will transition immediately into the permanent role.
His professional background encompasses multiple sectors including higher education, healthcare, legal practice, and public service. Kim previously held the position of senior vice president and general counsel at USC, while also teaching at the USC Gould School of Law, according to the statement.
Established in 1880, USC operates as a premier private research institution in Los Angeles with 23 schools. The university currently serves approximately 46,000 students for the 2025-2026 academic year.
